Tehkummah Talk & Times

With awe and ohs and ahs, our trip home from Sudbury on Tuesday was one of crystals and diamonds everywhere. The world glistened in the sunshine. Smile. Our trip over on Sunday we stayed pretty well ahead of the rain, stopped at Cortina’s in Espanola for our supper (that’s a great spot). Beverly Jean signed us in at House of Kin. We were in “Timmins Lottery booth”, furnished room! Nice and comfy.

Sherry had to scrape ice Monday before we could leave for Health Sciences North and even more in the evening to head back plus she helped clear other folks’ windows as well.

My day there was a few tests. Jenna, Jessica, Vicki, Marcy Ann were some of the beautiful girls. Kind and sweet, who were there to help us poor folk. We even got some of the cookie treats. (I think they liked us.) After the angiogram a smiling handsome young man was standing at the foot of my bed (great-grandson Jacob). What a nice surprise. He was there with his grandparents Susan and Gene Bebamash and his dad Roger who was also there for medical reasons. I was getting to leave when Sherry screamed and blood was flying everywhere. I didn’t even feel it. Lucky I still had my cuff on, so, after Vicki quickly jumped in with the pressure, they put air back in immediately, so we had to stay probably another hour and a half after changing and cleaning up. From minute to minute, I am so grateful for the patience my daughter has with me and the time she gives. Domino’s pizza on Monday. We stopped at Cortina’s again on the way home! Had a visit with Lynette and Barney Deforge. Barney had his problems this past week when he had tests in Sudbury too. They are such a nice giving young couple.

I found out one sure thing, it just ain’t easy doing stuff (like getting clothes on, up and or down, with only one hand!) This angio was done in the arm, next is? TO here I come!?

Got a phone call from Kim and Kathy. I had just got the phone book out and I was just eating my supper, 8:30 pm. As I said, it was their dime!

Calls from Pauline, Lori, Loretta, Joan.

This week’s commercial is the guy Kevin who does not want to miss the Boxing Day sale!

Sherry was here to help me out on Wednesday.

Three and a half tables, an unpredictable day weather wise, flurries to clear, Dorothy Cronk looked after cribbage for me and I thank her so much: high hand, Ken, 21; first, Judi and Ken, 946; second, Margaret and Lorrie Lee, 925; third, Donna and Hugh, 924; low, Brad and Dorothy, 850; door, Hugh and Margaret.

Fairview Church, 11:30 am, December 22, 2019. Great musician Patrick O’Leary. Also, Tuesday evening service, December 24, Martin Garniss the Christmas Story, ever new.

In my chair, a cat on my lap. The Ellen Show on.

The last bid euchre of 2019, though, next Thursday regular euchre tournament at 7:30 pm.

A delicious dinner was served after our cards today, extra draws, a Christmas event, thanks Margaret Casea. Bid euchre, December 12: first, Marg Case; second, Henk Reckman, 160; third, Pat Hall, 156; low, Dave James, 89; 50/50, Terry. Special prizes, extra: Simon, Marg C.; gift draws, Hugh, large basket; gift bags, Linda B. and Pat Novak. Bid euchre returns in the afternoon at 1 pm on January 9, 2020.

There were hundreds, well, many birds in the yard today, feeding up ahead of the snowfall again. Why are the goldfinches still bright gold? My TV is off, I guess the dish is full.

When asked what I was having a catscan for, I couldn’t answer. It was suggested they were checking for “cats.” Anything is possible. Earlier today I had two cats on me? Then it was, maybe a “fur ball”? That’s more apt to be it! I’ll tell you all next column. Okay?

When you put the pieces of your life together, they are made up of all the memories, laughter, tears, friends and our wonderful families. Most of us are too busy, so take the time to appreciate all the gifts of the heart this special time of year.

Those of you who are dealing with the sadness of loss and this week two more “Tehkummah” folk have gone on to their “great reward.” Sympathy to the families of Elizabeth Ahlborn and Leonard Winters. Thinking of you all.

Overnight all that nice soft deep fluffy snow went to heavy and wet. At 6:30 in the morning Ray was cleaning, pushing, piling, I heard the scraping sound. I yelled good morning and gave Glenna scoop of dog cookies.

Ho Ho Ho, Santa Claus appears at the municipal building in Tehkummah. I was surprised at all the young folk I saw. A bonfire nearby with people toasting marshmallows and roasting hotdogs. The large spruce tree beautifully lit and many photos taken in front of it and a choir nearby once again. A nice evening as the weather cooperated beautifully as it did last year. Sometimes good fortune falls.

Ice covered world this Saturday morning. An hour-long phone call from Mollie in Winnipeg, minus 26 with minus 36 wind chill there!

I’ve seen three cardinals brightening up my view at the feeder this morning. The first in a long while!

Nancy and Grant, nice decorations; Pierre and Barb, nice tree; Sherry and Dave have pictures on their wall and music! Looks like a pretty tree in Barb and Paul’s house.

Christmas is coming!

We had the most delicious turkey dinner and all the fixings at Carol’s and Earl’s restaurant. The Triangle Club dinner, sweets, council and some of our faithful musicians. A special gift to the club members and some gift draws to a few lucky folks. So, thanks so much for everything.

We drove down to Sherry’s and Dave’s and had a good game of sequence; the gals defeated the guys.

Sunday was all about Jay and the lovely sunshine helped a lot.

The third advent candle was lit today. And Joyous songs and music. I was late for church as I had crusty frozen snow on the windshield. It didn’t want to give up its place!

We, Norma, Mary, Martin and Lynda, met at Carol’s and Earl’s after church today. That was nice. Saw Rick Pegelo and his grandson there. They have been in the construction business.

Lorri Lee and I had four games of cribbage after. She skunked me badly once. I won the “gold watch and chain.” Barely! A short visit with Pauline on my way home!

On Monday December 9, did we follow Terry and Arlene (spelled right?) All through the hospital or did they follow us? (Fairly new Manitowaning resident.)
