UCCM Anishnaabe Police celebrates Police Week with community events across Island

M’CHIGEENG—UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service (UCCM APS) was proud to join police services across the province in marking Police Week 2025, May 11-17. This year’s theme, ‘Protecting Ontario,’ honours the dedication of officers and highlights the vital role of community-based policing in keeping communities safe, connected and supported.

“We are proud to serve with integrity and accountability, grounded in Anishnaabe values,” said Police Chief James Killeen. “Police Week is not only a time to honour the work of our officers, but also a chance to connect with community members, answer questions and inspire the next generation of policing leaders.”

UCCM Anishnaabe Police is deeply rooted in the communities it serves, Sheshegwaning, Aundeck Omni Kaning (AOK), M’Chigeeng, Sheguiandah, Whitefish River First Nation, and Zhiibaahaasing, on Manitoulin Island and along Highway 6 in Ontario. Police Week is an opportunity to recognize the strength of these partnerships and celebrate the collective efforts toward community safety and wellness, a release notes.

To mark the week, UCCM Anishnaabe Police held a series of community events from May 12-20. Events featured informal presentations about the police service, a recruitment and careers booth, a police service survey, community service partner booths and a free community supper.
