Writer supplies important information on electricity rates

You don’t have to take high rates lying down

To the Expositor:

From the participants’ comments at an important meeting for the 99 percent of Manitoulin households living better electrically held December 12 at Manitoulin Secondary School under the auspices of our hard working MPP Michael Mantha, it quickly became obvious that the main concern was the high cost of electricity. However, invited guests, Hydro One Ombudsman Fiona Crean and Ferio Pugliese, Hydro One VP Customer Care, made it clear in their introductory remarks that their respective mandates precluded dealing with electricity rate issues. It was pointed out that the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) sets electricity rates.

The good news is that the OEB (Ontario energy board.ca) has a Customer Relations Centre (877-632-2727), which can advise how to make written comments by mail or online to the board secretary, Ms. Kirsten Walli, regarding the 2017 Hydro One Networks Inc. electricity distribution rate application (EB-2016-0081 Custom IR 3 year update). Furthermore, should complaints about electricity rates not be dealt with satisfactorily by the OEB, it is possible to enlist the aid of the Ontario Ombudsman (www.ombudsman.on.ca), J. Paul Dube (800-263-1830), who has jurisdiction to oversee the OEB.

Respectfully,

Harald Simon
