GORE BAY—Kris Leblanc and Harold Temple have opened up what has so far been a very successful business, having opened Island Goods located in Gore Bay about seven weeks ago. The business features bulk, organic, local and natural food products and other items-products. And as an extension of this business they are operating, In Good Company catering for small or large events.
“It is my dream job to make food for people, and be creative in the items we offer,” Ms. Leblanc told the Recorder. After having worked at Island Pantry for three summers she said, “we were all sad to see it close. Due to amount of space here I am not able to carry everything the Island Pantry did, but I do like to feature some of the more, local, organic, seasonal foods, as well as items like natural body and skin care products,” said Ms. Leblanc.
“Good nutrition is the basis for healthy living,” said Ms. Leblanc. “When we choose the best, we have the power to heal and sustain a healthy and vibrant life. At Island Goods, we offer a wide variety of high-quality products including gluten free, organic, local, bulk flours and grains, herbs and spices, dairy and non-dairy.”
“We have a great selection of eats and treats made daily,” said Ms. Leblanc. “This includes, for instance fresh salads, wraps, hot items and gluten free baking. Our whole focus is locally, fresh made products and trying to incorporate local products into our salads and sandwiches. And eventually we are going to have even more items.”
“We also cater to dietary issues, including those people who are lactose intolerant,” continued Ms. Leblanc.
Island Goods also features natural skin care products, as well as other items like t-shirts, jewellery, and works of local artisans. “We feature local products like Ashley and Dylon Whyte’s earrings,” said Ms. Leblanc
“We will also be catering a wedding in September,” said Mr. Temple. “Catering is my specialty. We catered for the Heart and Stroke people when they were in Gore Bay an event as part of Harbour Days (earlier this summer). And we provided a chili and platters lunch for a boat group that Robby Colwell had visiting Gore Bay this summer.”
“We’re hoping people will call us to cater for Christmas parties,” said Mr. Temple. “The products I make are fresh and seasonal but we can serve pretty much any type of food a client may want. Not many businesses specialize in catering on the Island. With this separate business (In Good Company) we will be solely catering to small and large events.”
Island Goods is located on 2 Dawson Street in Gore Bay and is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. They can be contacted at 705-282-0763. To contact Good Company call 705-348-8216.
