The creator called Victor home on September 16, 2016. Surrounded by his family, he passed gently into the spirit world. Survived by his wife, Molly, of 47 years. Proud father of Valerie (Michael), Sheldon (Danielle), Myles (Joan), Holly (Alex), and Vernon. Cherished papa of Nevada, Faith, Eden, Caleb, Summer, Odemin, Mnising, Amisk, Gnaajwi, Ozhaawashko, Teresa, Alessandra, Vittoria and great-grandfather of Taylor. He will be missed by his brother Peter G. Migwans (Cathy), seven brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Dominic and Annie (Commanda) Migwans, five brothers and five sisters. Victor was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, Queens Own Rifles and worked for INCO for 33 years. He was 47 years sober, a friend of Bill W. and a member of Sober Riders. Recipient of the Aboriginal Country Music Hall of Fame, he also received the Anishinabek Lifetime Achievement Award from the Union of Ontario Indians. Victor was very proud to serve his community as councillor for 40 years and was an advocate for children, frequently visiting Lakeview School. Victor had a contagious smile, loved spending time with family and friends and was a talented musician. With Molly at his side, they travelled extensively across North America playing music and making new friends. He was a strong warrior and was influential to many people. Victor had a fulfilling life journey with joy, humour, and wisdom. Victor made everyone feel special. Visitation was held at the M’Chigeeng Community Complex on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 1 pm until time of the funeral mass on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11 am. Interment in M’Chigeeng Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Victor Migwans Music and Leadership Bursary Fund at Lakeview School and may be made through www.simpsonfuneralhome.ca.
