M’CHIGEENG—Three males have been charged following a serious assault in M’Chigeeng First Nation.

On Sunday, October 18, the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service (UCCM APS) entered in a serious assault investigation in M’Chigeeng First Nation.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured individual who was transported to hospital for treatment. The investigation revealed that multiple people had been involved in a violent altercation.

As a result of the investigation, members of the UCCM APS arrested and charged three males between the ages of 32-33 with aggravated assault. The names of the parties involved are not being released at this time.

“Community safety depends on strong collaboration between police and the communities we serve,” a UCCM APS release states. “The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service reminds the public that protecting the safety, health and well-being of our communities requires us to work together. We need your help, your information, and your assistance to effect meaningful change. Acts of violence and drug trafficking invite residual and lateral violence into our community, such as home invasions, serious assaults, and homicides, which leads to the erosion of our communities.”

All accused people are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact UCCM APS or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit an online tip at www.sudburycrimestoppers.com.
