Guilty pleas in Wiikwemkoong charges

GORE BAY- In the early morning hours of January 5, 2021, the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service responded to a report that individuals were in possession of a firearm. As a result of the investigation, police seized more than 100 grams of suspected cocaine, cash, a restricted handgun and a prohibited weapon. 

Three men from Toronto faced numerous charges, including restricted and prohibited weapons charges, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds from criminal activity. A joint hearing was held virtually at Gore Bay on Thursday, May 20 to hear guilty pleas.

Lascel Tyndale, then 22, pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded, restricted firearm; possession of a prohibited device; possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking; failure to comply with a recognizance and possession of property obtained by crime. Mr. Tyndale has no prior criminal record.

Kenyon Ohamu, then 24, pleaded guilty to possession of property obtained by crime, breach of a release order and breach of probation. 

Dylano Williams, then 21, pleaded guilty to breach of probation. Mr. Williams has no other outstanding charges.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 10. All three men have been released on bail and are to remain outside of the district of Manitoulin other than for the purpose of attending court.
