MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Streams Island-wide cleanup is underway and with it something new—the Bridge-to-Boat Cleanup. Highway 6 from the swing bridge south to South Baymouth has been nicely divided into one-kilometre chunks and Manitoulin Streams is hoping the community will step up and get this portion of Manitoulin roadway spic and span.

On April 25, over 30 cadets with the Manitoulin Sea Cadet Corps will be undertaking the first kilometre before the bridge and the first kilometre after the bridge. This group, along with Little Current Lions Club, Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy, Friends of Manitoulin Turtles, Little Current and District Fish and Game Club, Lake Manitou Area Association plus many other individuals and groups are stepping up to get Highway 6 clean.

Log on to the Manitoulin Stream webpage and click on ‘get involved’ then ‘Island-wide garbage cleanup.’ From there you can click on the ‘bridge-to-boat map’ and see what portion of Highway 6 is still free and register your stretch of roadway. Next year a different route will be chosen.
