LITTLE CURRENT—Manitoulin Centennial Manor’s board of directors met on Thursday, October 20 where the directors learned that the budget was in good shape and minor capital projects are currently underway.

The Manor decided to switch up snow removal contractors, a decision made easier as only one quote was received. The contractor used last year was cheaper, noted administrator Don Cook, but there were problems with the performance, and that contractor did not rebid. The previous, more expensive contractor, was awarded the contract. It was noted that he “has the equipment and does good work.”

The Ministry of Long-Term Care found the current emergency generator is undersized. “It can’t power the whole building, especially the elevator, and the ministry recommended replacing it,” noted Mr. Cook, who explained that, because the Manor’s building drawings are limited, electrical engineering work is needed first. Shield Engineering (Sudbury) proposed roughly $13,000–$14,000 to prepare electrical drawings and the board was asked to approve this.
