MANITOULIN—Islandwide Wrestling is poised to host the ‘Pet Rescue Ruckas,’ a fundraiser for Manitoulin Pet Rescue.
Paul Wright, of Islandwide Wrestling explained, “One of my pets is actually a rescue pet, from Pet Rescue, that they helped us with. When I looked at a list of fundraisers we could hold a night for Pet Rescue stood out for me.”
Pet Rescue Ruckas live pro wrestling will take place on Saturday, November 14 at the Four Directions Complex in Aundeck Omni Kaning (AOK) First Nation. “There will be six matches, and refreshments are available, and there will be vendors and Pet Rescue representatives will be there as well providing information about their group, photos of adoptable pets, while donations can be made to the cause.”
The wrestling line-up for November 14 will feature Manitoulin’s own Paul Wright, Hawberry Cup winner Slater Jacobs, two-time Islandwide tag team champions Adam ‘Smasher’ Parks, ‘Two Gun’ Tommy McCloud. Julian Warde will be making his Islandwide debut, while Wiikwemkoong’s own TJV, along with Frome the Empire-Matthew Grant and JT Kirk, as well as the Kult of Kross-Rush Rancid and The Monster S.I.D. with their manager Kevyn Kross. More matches and wrestlers will be announced.
Islandwide Wrestling debuted on Manitoulin in January 2024, spearheaded by Mr. Wright, a Haweater who moved back to the Island five years ago. “We’ve been very successful, and we hold about four live wrestling events a year, which vary by wrestlers.”
As evidence of the success of the events, in July, during Hawfest Weekend celebrations, Islandwide Wrestling held an event at the NEMI arena, with 200 people in attendance. “All of our events throughout the year are held at the Four Directions Complex in Aundeck Omni Kaning (First Nation) except for our annual event in July at Hawfest.”
“We have seven sponsors,” said Mr. Wright. “We’ve been very successful, and the support we have received has been awesome.”
“We’re trying out this fundraiser for Pet Rescue and if it is successful, we will do it again in November, 2027,” said Mr. Wright.
Tickets are $20 for the event, with doors open at 6 pm; the bell rings at 7 pm.
