MHC Auxiliary News

Our January meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather so many issues had to be dealt with at our February meeting. Here are some highlights.

This year is the 70th Anniversary of an auxiliary to the hospital in Little Current. Our regular events will have a celebratory air! To honour all members past and present a leaf will be purchased for the Tree of Life, recognizing the efforts and accomplishments of auxiliary endeavours.

Our regular fundraisers continue to do well. Thanks to all who contribute to the diverse activities that allow us to support the Manitoulin Health Centre to enhance patient services. Many notice the “Fill ‘er Up” jug on the Tuck Cart table (Monday to Friday from 11 am to 1 pm). Thank you for your support.

We appreciate the support received at the Cookie Walk, the Christmas Fair and for the purchases of raffle tickets and Memory Tree ornaments.

We depend on you to fulfill our mandate.

The Fundscrip fundraiser needs your support! It’s easy! Simply buy pre-paid cards for your every day needs such as groceries, gas and hardware. The auxiliary receives from two percent to 10 percent of the value of the card from Fundscrip. For example, a $100 gas card earns us $3, a $100 grocery card earns $2 and a $100 Canadian Tire card brings in $4. It all adds up. So far we have received over $200 from Fundscrip. To buy your cards, pick up a short (Manitoulin and Espanola) form or a long form (many more businesses) from the box on the wall near the Tuck Cart room. Fill it out and return it with a cheque or cash to the lock box underneath the forms by the 20th of each month. The cards are good across Canada and there is no expiry date. Cards are perfect gifts for folks near and far. Try it! You’ll like the convenience and you know you’re supporting the MHC Auxiliary.

All patients in hospital at Christmas received a polar fleece blanket. Thanks to Marilee Hore and June McConnell for making them.

The New Year’s baby gift of an assortment of necessary items was arranged by Marilee Hore and given to the new baby, Nova Dube.

Attend our upcoming events.

Another Book Sale is planned for Friday, February 27 (5 and 8 pm) and Saturday, February 28 (9 am to 2 pm) in the Cafeteria at the MHC Little Current site.

Thanks to those who attended the January sale.

The annual casserole dinner is on March 20 at 6 pm in the United Church Hall. Tickets for the luscious meal are still only $10 and will be available from members after our March 5 meeting. Donations will be accepted.

The Spring Conference will be held in April in Parry Sound. The theme is “Aging Well.” Six delegates and our two regional members will attend.

Please remember our 70th and pause to remember those special people who have made things happen over all these years.
