Plenty of action heats up at the 42nd Annual Sherron Clarke Memorial Carp Derby

GORE BAY—The Cody Hunter team has won the 42nd annual Sherron Clarke Memorial Carp Derby, held in June in Gore Bay and area waters.

“We would like to thank everyone for taking part in this year’s derby,” stated Kaleigh Harrietha who, along with her partner Cody Hunter, organize the annual event.

Ms. Harrietha explained there were a total of nine teams (37 participants) entered in the derby, including four junior competitors and three new shooters.

The John Seabrook team placed second in the 42nd Annual Sherron Clarke Memorial Carp Derby, held recently in Gore and area waters.

“On Saturday 10 carp were harvested with 61 dogfish for a total of 71 fish,” said Ms. Harrietha. On Sunday three carp and 11 dogfish were taken, for a total of 85 fish on the weekend—13 carp and 72 dogfish.

Cody Hunter’s team, which included Landon Seifried, Stacy Rayner, Seth Verboom, Greg Oire took the first-place prize of $200 with a total of 55 points. The John Seabrook team, which included Kim Chatwell, Noah Thorpe, Andy Watson won the second-place prize of $150 with a total of 23 points. There was a tie for third place and a prize of $100, with the Grayson Orford and Adam Brown teams, both finishing with 19 points. Through the flip of a coin, Mr. Brown’s team, which also included Terry Kay and Jesse McMurray was declared the third-place team. 

The largest fish, weighing 21.1 pounds, was harvested by Nevin Merrylees (for a prize of $100) while the smallest fish prize (also $100) was harvested by Landon Seifried, with a catch of 9.4 pounds. 

The $100 prize for the most unique garbage prize found during the derby, a cormorant band, was found by Andy Watson.

Mr. Hunter’s team won the Darren Nodecker memorial prize of $50 for the most dogfish harvested on the weekend, a total of 41 fish. Mr. Hunter’s team also won the $50 prize for the most fish harvested on Sunday, a total of six.

The Don Chilton Mystery draw, for free entry into next year’s derby, was won by the Dustin/Richards team. 

Lafarge was a sponsor of the derby.

Several participants 15 years of age and under, who took part in the derby, received a free arrow.
