Tips from the public help catch drunk driver

ESPANOLA–Tips from the public are helping police catch impaired drivers on our streets, roads and highways. The latest instance of this came yesterday, Thursday, September 27, on Highway 17 in the Espanola area. Members of the Espanola OPP detachment were notified of a possible impaired driver after a motorist reported seeing a vehicle fail to stop for a red light at the Highway 6 and Highway 17 junction. Officers located the vehicle just after 7 pm near Massey. The female driver of the vehicle was found to have been drinking and was arrested for impaired driving.

Twenty-nine-year-old Natalie Ruthven of Vancouver, BC has been charged with impaired driving and will appear in Espanola court on November 6, 2012.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) encourages the public to call police by dialing 9-1-1, or call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 if they observe a possible impaired driver. You very well may save a life!
