Wikwemikong election this Saturday

WIKWEMIKONG—The Wikwemikong election for chief and council will take place this Saturday, August 20 with four candidates for chief on the ballot: Robert (Bobby) Corbiere, Ronnie Odjig, Duke Peltier (incumbent) and Gladys F. Wakegijig. Both Mr. Corbiere and Ms. Wakegijig have previously held the chief’s position.

There are 55 candidates for councillor, with 12 seats at the table on offer. The candidates for councilor include: Amy Assinewai, Yvette (Ivyn) Assiniwai, Giselle Aiabens, Lillian Baibomcowai-Dell, Dominic Beaudry (incumbent), Margorie Beaudry, Dallas M.J. Bondy, Lyndsay G. Francis (incumbent), Theresa Hoy, Diane G. Jacko, Ray Jackson, R. Gerry Kaboni, Wanda Kimewon, Daryl A. King, Winnifred (Winnie) Maiangowi, Andrew A. To qualify to vote, you must be a registered Wikwemikong band member, 18 years of age as of August 20.

Polling day is Saturday, August 20 from 9 am to 8 pm at the Wikwemikong Band Office council chambers, 19A Complex Drive. Electors can vote in person at the polling place on the day of the election in lieu of voting by mail-in ballot.
