Michelle Thrush brings her comedic one-woman show ‘Inner Elder’—about surviving trauma via inner wisdom—to Debaj in Manitowaning May 5-8.
MANITOWANING—We all have inner voices that act as consultants, mentors and, sometimes, accomplices who direct our journeys down the path of life. As artists, actors and writers those voices can also act as muses and provide grist for creative works.
Award-winning actress and dedicated Indigenous and youth activist Michelle Thrush has harnessed those voices, and her life experiences, to create a unique one-woman show ‘Inner Elder.’ That show has been touring across Turtle Island since she wrote it in 2011.
“Inner Elder is a concept I came up with years ago, and it really just means that we all carry an elder within us that helps us to think of more intelligent approaches to life than our youthful ignorance can be,” said Ms. Thrush. “So, we talk about a wise inner voice, they talk about inner child all the time, so I just introduced the concept of being an ‘Inner Elder’.”
