Annual Aelick Liver Walk a success

KAGAWONG—Wayne and Anna Aelick (and their team of supporters) continue to give back to the Liver Canada Foundation after he received a liver transplant eight years ago.

The couple spearhead the ‘Move for Liver’ walk every year, “as part of our fundraising campaign to give back to the Liver Foundation,” said Mr. Aelick, in an interview with The Expositor. “This year marks the sixth year we have held this Move for Liver Walk. We have raised $84,194 over the years.”

“We fundraise all year long with sales of our homemade bird houses, with all the proceeds going to the Liver Foundation Canada,” said Mr. Aelick. “We get to as many markets as we can during the year to sell these bird houses.”

“And we have people who donate wood to us and sometimes nails (to build the bird houses),” said Mr. Aelick. “We receive really good support from members of the community.”

A fundraising barbecue was held on June 14 at Foodland in Mindemoya for Team Aelick. “Andrew (Orr) used to hold the annual fundraiser at the grocery store in Little Current and now he puts on the same fundraiser at Mindemoya,” he explained. “Andew donates everything raised from the barbecue to Move for Liver Team Aelick and this years’ was the best barbecue fundraiser he has held for our cause. There was a really good turnout in Mindemoya, the best one so far, lots of people were around for the Pearson Cup baseball tournament.”

Mr. Aelick said prior to this year’s walk, “a total of $13,000 has been raised so far. Our goal is to raise $25,000, so we are only a little over halfway there at this point.”

The ‘Team Aelick’ Move for Liver five-kilometre walk took place this past Saturday, June 28 in Kagawong. The walk began at the Park Centre in Kagawong at 11 am and continued through the village.

If you wish to join Team Aelick or make a donation to support Liver Canada (on behalf of Team Aelick), you can do so online at: Liver Canada (secure.liver.ca/goto/teamaelick) or send a cheque payable to Liver Canada by mail to Anna and Wayne Aelick, 30 Maple Drive, Kagawong, On.
