Manitoulin OPP respond to report of possible impaired driver

One person is facing impaired-related charges after police received a report of a possible impaired driver.

On Friday, May 16 at approximately 3:30 am, the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Police Service Commission (UCCM Police) with a call reporting a possible impaired driver that was leaving a residence in Whitefish River First Nation (WRFN). Police located the vehicle near Old Village Road South and conducted a traffic stop. Further investigation resulted in the driver being arrested for impaired operation.

The driver, Jackilene Mejaki, 24 years old, from WRFN, was charged with operation while impaired alcohol, operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), novice driver blood alcohol content above zero.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on June 24.

Driver arrested for impaired operation in 

Gordon Township

One person is facing impaired related charges after the Manitoulin detachment of the OPP conducted a traffic stop.

On Sunday, May 25, at approximately 2:30 am, the Manitoulin OPP were conducting general patrol near the intersection of Highway 542 and Highway 540B in Gordon/Barrie Island township. Police observed a vehicle that was travelling on Highway 542 turn onto Highway 540B, and a traffic stop was initiated. Police conducted mandatory alcohol screening on the driver, and as a result the driver was arrested for impaired operation.

Alexandria Lewis, 23-years-old from Gore Bay, was charged with operation while impaired alcohol, operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on June 24.

Mandatory alcohol screening results in 

impaired arrest

One person is facing impaired related charges after a traffic stop. On Sunday May 24 at approximately 1 am, the Manitoulin OPP were conducting general patrol on Highway 551 in M’Chigeeng First Nation. 

Police observed a vehicle that was travelling on Highway 551 turn onto Mnaawnkwad Road, and a traffic stop was initiated. Police conducted mandatory alcohol screening on the driver, and as a result, the driver was arrested for impaired operation.

The driver, Diane Beboning, 43, from M’Chigeeng First Nation, was charged with refusal to comply with demand, two counts of drive vehicle with cannabis readily available, two counts of driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on June 24.

driver arrested

One person has been arrested for impaired operation after police received a traffic complaint.

On Monday, May 12, at approximately 2:30 pm, the Manitoulin detachment of the OPP received a traffic complaint reporting a vehicle that was unable to maintain its lane. Police responded and located the vehicle on Highway 6 in Curtin township. A traffic stop was initiated, and further investigation on scene resulted in the driver being arrested for impaired operation.

The driver, Carlo Pensabene, 66 years old from Elliot Lake, was charged with operation while impaired by drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on June 24.
