MSS Tennis Mustangs
NSSSA Champions
The MSS Mustang Tennis Team hit the courts in M’Chigeeng on May 15 to complete in the North Shore Championships. After a long day of ups and downs, and many close tie-breaks, they emerged victorious to claim the NSSSA title again. Only the top team in each division gets to continue on to NOSSA in North Bay this week, and so MSS will represented by Ava Corbiere in Girls Singles, Aspen Debassige and Emery Watson in Girls Doubles, and either Zee Toulouse and Jaron Panamick, or Rylan Pennie and Grace Pennie in Mixed Doubles. These two teams will have to face off after the long weekend to finish their championship match after running out of time on May 15th. Second place finishes were also achieved by Anders Watson and Jonah Balfe in Boys Doubles in a double tie-break, Addy Gray and Amy Smith, and of course, whomever loses that final Mixed Doubles match. With MSS finishing with 6 of the top 10 final spots, they easily won the team banner. Way to Go Mustangs!
Hats off as well to the remainer of the team who also competed hard: Wyatt Williamson-Wright, Dylan Kuntsi, Thomas Redmond, Tim Arabadzhyi, Ian McCauley, Robyn-Ashley McNaughton, Georgia Roy, Phoebe Aeschlimann, Lordes Taukei and Sarahmarie Wassegijig. Congratulations, of course to coach Chris Theijsmeijer.

Successful Season Recap
Congratulations to Sapphire Recollet-Case, who has made the 2025/2026 U18T2 Soo Jr Greyhounds team this upcoming hockey season. Sapphire who played for years as a Manitowaning Wolf moved to Sault Ste. Marie with her mom Samantha, last November. She was late to the hockey season but had managed to get on with Sault Female Hockey Association U18 House league girls – sponsored by Team Essentials as well on her High School hockey team, the Superior Heights Steelhawks.
There she was a great asset to the house league team, immediately making new friends, and great connections with coaches. One of her season highlights was her play in the Barrie Sharks tournament back in February where they went undefeated until the very last game where it went into double overtime, losing until then a scoreless game, 1-0.
During Sapphires time in the Soo, she volunteered as a helper with the U7 Timbit girls’ team, in which her youngest sister plays on. She was also named Captain of her Little NHL U-18 girls Rec. team – Northern Storm. With only eight players for the entire tournament, Sapphire had to step up to the spot she had never played: center!

Always busy, both her and her younger sisters, Priscilla and Everly do their own dryland training with former NHLer, Ken Belanger of KBX, who has been instrumental in her confidence and keeping motivated. She has been a role model and the only u18 leader for the annual house league scramble!
Chantal Rilley, President of the 2024-25 Sault Female Hockey Association was so impressed she penned the following about her. “Sapphire is the kind of player every community hopes to have in their youth programs. During our recent house league scramble, I saw her go out of her way to support and guide younger players on the ice — a true display of leadership, patience, and sportsmanship. Off the ice, she’s just as thoughtful and kind, taking the time to connect with others and uplift those around her. Her selection to the U18 Tier 2 Junior Greyhounds is a testament to her resilience, hard work, and character. She’s an outstanding role model, and I am incredibly proud of her.”
Mom, stepdad Tyler, her sisters Priscilla and Everly, Mama and Papa Recollet are looking forward to being in red this upcoming hockey season supporting her last year in Minor hockey!
