With just two months left of school, it’s been a busy time for MSS students with big wins, important deadlines and plans already forming for the next school year.
A highlight of the week was the Junior Reach For The Top trivia team, which brought home a first-place trophy from the Lasalle Secondary School Championship. The team was undefeated throughout the round-robin play and won the championship for the first time in MSS history. Team members Dylan Kuntsi, Isaac Quackenbush, Kjell Smith, Kaden Jamieson, and their captain, Tanner Hooper-Leblanc, were recognized for their awesome teamwork!
In other important news, students planning to attend college in the fall were reminded of a key deadline last week. Thursday, May 1st, was the final day to confirm acceptance of college admission offers through the Ontario Colleges Application Service (OCAS). For students attending university next year, the deadline to accept an offer from a university using the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) is Monday, June 2.
Another exciting update for our grads: grad gown ordering is now open! Students walking the stage on Thursday, June 12, are asked to rent their gowns and caps using School Cash Online.
Looking ahead, the boys’ hockey team is starting back up next school year after a several-year hiatus. Players interested met last Tuesday with the vice-principal, Mr. Doane, to learn more about expectations for next season! The return of the hockey program has been exciting news for several students, and everyone is looking forward to a great hockey season next year.
With the end of the year approaching, there are several upcoming events. Here is a quick look at what MSS is getting up to: Spring Formal: Friday, May 9; NSSSA (North Shore Secondary School Athletics) Tennis: Wednesday, May 7; Pre-NSSSA Track and Field: Wednesday, May 14; NSSSA Track and Field: Wednesday, May 21; Manitoulin Metal E-Waste Drive: May 26-31; and MSS Powwow: Thursday, June 5.
