It is a bit of a trope that a snow-tired shoveller shakes their fist at the passing plow truck that just deposited a wall of snow at the foot of their freshly cleared driveway—but in truth those hardy men and women in public works departments deserve their undying gratitude.
While most of us remain snug in our beds, the pilots of the municipal plows, trucks, front-end loaders, excavators and graders are out clearing our highways and byways so we can get to work, to medical appointments and the host of other activities that lie beyond our doorsteps.
Many Island communities announced a “significant weather event” and advised residents to not travel, by vehicle or on foot, unless it was absolutely necessary, as sidewalks and many roads remained dangerous to travel.
