OPP stuff-a-cruiser event fills close to three cruisers for MFR food bank

MINDEMOYA—The second annual Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Stuff-a-Cruiser event held on Wednesday, November 19, is held in tribute to the memory of Manitoulin OPP Provincial Constable Marc Hovingh, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty five years ago on November 19, 2020 and his tremendous community service, both on and in the line of duty.

“The event is held in memory of Marc; basically this year marks the fifth anniversary of his death, and along with supporting Manitoulin Family Resources and the food bank, we are holding this event to support Marc’s family, his colleagues, friends and the community to have a positive thing to look forward to on such a heavy day, as well as honour the contributions and impact he had on the community, both on duty and off-duty,” said Manitoulin OPP Constable Berkley Parisien.

“Lianne Hovingh talked about her husband Marc and how he loved to take care of his family, and make sure they were fed as well as taking care of those in the community,” said Constable Parisien. “Lianne and her kids were there at the event, and helped the entire time, as did many OPP and Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) officers.”

The Stuff-a-Cruiser event took place at the Mindemoya Foodland store. All non-perishable food item donations, and cash donations provided will support the Island community in the holiday season, through (MFR) and its Christmas Hamper Food basket campaign.

“We did very well for sure,” stated Constable Parisien. “Almost three cruiser trucks were full of food items and many monetary donations.”
