Stasia Carr has taken up the role of clerk at the Township of Assiginack

MANITOWANING—The Township of Assiginack welcomed Stasia Carr as its new clerk at a meeting of council in January.

“We are thrilled to have been able to hire Stasia as our new clerk,” said Assiginack Mayor Brenda Reid. “She brings a lot of experience with her, and we are very excited to have hired her for this job.”

Ms. Carr stated, “I am so excited to join the team of hardworking administrative professionals at the township of Assiginack. Integrity is an important part of everything I do, and I care deeply about helping communities thrive.”

“I look forward to building a strong relationship with my coworkers and council, to work together to create opportunities that improve life for everyone in the township,” said Ms. Carr.

Ms. Carr explained, “I have over 18 years of experience working for municipalities, where I have developed a passion for serving communities.” She started working for the city of Hamilton in the culture department, where I honed my skills in research, grant writing, event planning, records management, and customer service.”

“My early roles allowed me to connect with the community while building practical skills that would shape my future in municipal administration,” continued Ms. Carr. Her family moved to Manitoulin Island in 2012.

“When a position became available with the town of Gore Bay I applied and became their administrative assistant,” said Ms. Carr. “I then took every opportunity to continue my education through every available webinar or course. I could access through the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Ontario (AMCTO).”

“I advanced to deputy clerk in 2019 (Gore Bay) and then clerk in February 2020,” said Ms. Carr. When the COVID pandemic hit in March 2020, the town did not have a chief administrative officer, so she stepped up to that position to lead the town administration through the pandemic.

“I am a person who thrives on challenges and enjoys change,” said Ms. Carr. “Municipal administration meets both of those objectives—100 percent.”
