During Smile Cookie Week at Tim Horton’s, our auxiliary members were busy helping the Little Current Lions Club put smiles on thousands of cookies.
Speaking of cookies, the Auxiliary is gearing up and baking up a storm for the annual Cookie Walk which is happening on Saturday, December 13 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. ‘Let us do the baking for you.’ Last year we were down to broken cookies and crumbs long before the hour of closing, so be sure to come early – 9:30 sharp!
We are so grateful to the Little Current Lions Club. They presented us with a donation of $25,000! We turned around and donated the same amount to the hospital for their smart infusion pump fundraising campaign. Win/win. As auxiliary member Lin Diebel said in a letter of thanks to the Lions: “Your thoughtful contribution directly supports our mission to help fund essential equipment for our community hospitals. This support is invaluable, and your kindness enables us to aid in the continued campaign to purchase new IV pumps for our Island hospitals. The generosity of the Lions Club is truly appreciated. Thank you for being such a vital partner in our community’s well-being. We hope the generosity of the Lions Club will further inspire others to help the MHC to reach their final goal.” The final goal was reached, the hospital has ordered the pumps, and they are due to arrive early December. A very successful campaign all around.
Our Christmas party took place on December 1 this year at the Anchor Inn, which is always a treat. Our gift exchange is a wild time, nothing store bought, but things from home ‘regifted.’ Gifts are allowed to be stolen from others, unless you’ve chosen a gift no one else wants, then much hilarity ensues. And it did. It’s never dull when the auxiliary members gather.
In the New Year, we will begin to plan for our fourth annual Rock-a-thon; a dinner to be held in the bleakest part of winter, and we’ll be working on other fundraising ideas, so stay tuned.
