Manitoulin Minor Spotlight

I hope, as in previous seasons, to focus on one of our local Manitoulin Minor house-league teams each week to recognize all of the players who are practising each week to improve and their coaches and helpers that allow them to even ice a team. If you would like to see your team in next week’s spotlight please send your details to chipstoquips@gmail.com.

This week in the spotlight are the M’Chigeeng U-15 Thunderbirds, who have had to recruit new and younger players from Little Current, Birch Island, Wiikmemkoong to fill their roster. With players not as familiar playing together as others, they are just starting to gel as a team and are looking to improve their tally into a winning record.

Congratulations to players: Azaleah Anaya, Brooklyn Ense, Carter Shigwadja, Charlotte Ziegler, Dominic Tomaselli, Harlem Osawamick, Hope Moore-Migwans, Jaxon Panamick, Kewadin Osawamick, M’Koonhs Corbiere, Mia Tomaselli, Mike Taukei, Navin Corbiere-Williams, Noah Enosse, Patience Assiniwe, Tomas Naokwegejig and Wade Debassige.

Thanks as well to the following Staff who made this team possible. Head Coach Joe Naokwegejig, Assistant Coach Hudson Hare, Trainer Noah Hare and Manager Ashley Debassige.

The U11 Manitoulin Panthers hosted the Nickel City Sons at home on Sunday. The two teams battled back and forth all game with Alexander Woods, Nixon Lane and Bryce Debassige scoring three goals in a tough 4-3 loss.

The U13 Panthers traveled to Blind River to play the North Shore Thundercats. The Panthers fell 8-4 with goals from Brody King, Howard Desjardins, Ayleanna McDermid and Aiden Corbiere.

The U15 Panthers were at home facing the Sudbury Wolves. The Panthers were down 4 goals by the beginning of the second period but made a strong effort to come back with goals from Ryley Corbiere, assisted by Joshua McComb and Landon Armstrong from Adrian Bois.

The U18 Lady Panthers had no games this week, but have been busy practicing and gearing up for their next tournament in Mount Forest on December 11th.
