GORE BAY—A group of four Gore Bay volunteer firefighting team members finished second overall in the annual North Shore Fire Challenge.

“We finished second overall from among nine teams in the challenge,” stated Jon Oliver, captain on the Gore Bay Volunteer Fire Department. He was accompanied by Chris Meloche, Devin Wheale and Ryder Lockeyer in the competition. The Gore Bay team placed second in two events and third in two other events.

In the bunker gear showdown, where firefighters are required to put on all of their personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus, Mr. Oliver finished third overall, getting all his equipment on in a time of one minute 5.42 seconds, four tenths of a second from second. He received a cash prize of $100.
