Gore Bay purchased the fire-damaged Woods Lane Apartments property from OAHS at market value. The deal closed Friday after months of talks. The town plans better residential redevelopment downtown (not social housing) and expects a planner’s report soon.
GORE BAY—The Town of Gore Bay has purchased the property where the Woods Lane Apartments building had previously been located. The building was severely damaged in a fire on April 1, 2025.
“We made an offer to Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) and they agreed to sell it to us and at a market value price for the property,” said Gore Bay Mayor Ron Lane, who updated the members of council at a meeting last week. The deal closed this past Friday, he told The Expositor. “It is certainly good news as far as the town is concerned.”
“We reached an agreement with OAHS in February, and then it was up to the lawyers for both parties to finalize it,” said Mayor Lane. “We have been working on this since last year.”
