Harold Dewar receives the Andy Watson Lifetime Membership Award

MINDEMOYA—To say Harold Dewar was surprised at receiving Andy Watson Lifetime Membership award from the Brookwood Brae Golf Course in Mindemoya would be an understatement.

“I certainly was surprised,” said Mr. Dewar when presented with the lifetime membership certificate from course owner Logan Middleton last week. Mr. Dewar explained that a few weeks ago John Seabrook of Brookwood Brae had called him to ask if he was in his 90th year. “My birthday isn’t until September 17, but I told him ‘yes, I was in my 90th year’ and he (John) said he was going to talk to Logan.”

However, not having heard anything further about it, “I said I’d better go down to the course and pay my membership dues, as Wednesday night was going to be men’s night at the course,” said Mr. Dewar.

“Harold came in today to pay for his membership for this season,” said Justin Lockeyer, events manager at Brookwood Brae. Logan Middleton, owner of Brookwood Brae Golf Course and Pirates Cove Cottages told Harold that since he is in his 90th year, “You’ve paid enough over the years, so we are going to present you with a lifetime membership.”

Mr. Lockeyer explained, “there have been a number of people who have received the lifetime membership when they turned 90. John (Seabrook, previous owner of the golf course and course superintendent), “presented the first lifetime membership award to Andy Watson when he turned 90, and we have had four others now, including Al Tustian, Jim Henderson, Art Berti and now Mr. Dewar.”
