Eagles pounce on RDSB title

Congratulations to the CMPS intermediate girls’ basketball team on their huge RDSB Division 2 championship win. Throughout the tournament the girls remained undefeated 5-0 throughout the preliminary and finals, finally beating Churchill in the finals for a score of 25 to 19 in division two of the highly competitive tournament! Shout outs go to the team and all of their hard work throughout not only the season but many years beforehand. The girls have worked very hard to develop their skills to get to the point where they are now. Team members include: Chloe Peltier, Leah Carrick, Lindsay Sheppard, Jordan Graham, Naomi Hill, Delaney Bridgeman, Annie Balfe, Zoe Redmond, Ava Assinewai and Nikki Cress! Coaches Christa and Chris King are exceptionally proud of their team and want to make known how many hours of practice and hard work that the girls put forth to win the RDSB championship and with such a small school to be in the running for this accolade is absolutely amazing.

Not to be forgotten are the Little Current Coyotes who made it to the semi-finals of the same event and drew up against the Eagles to decide who would play for the gold. Altghough the teams dueled as Island teams tend to do, LCPS were relegated to miss the medal games.

3 on 3 season begins this coming weekend!

The second season of many young hockey players has already started with many practices and a tournament already under their belts. 3 on 3 is a different animal but for students of the game that although it has a different energy and strategy it spreads out their precious game another few weeks.

Manitoulin will host their own 3 on 3 event this coming weekend in Little Current and will have 31 teams entered over 5 divisions!

The Skills Competition will be split into two sessions. The first mid-day Saturday for the Novice/Atom and the second Saturday evening for the Peewee/Bantam/Midgets. This is geared to be a fun, team based competition and we really hope everyone will participate. Off their Rock hockey!

Sam Manitowabi is a former Wiky Hawk who now lives in North Western Ontario. His daughter Jennelle plays Junior Hockey for Warroad, Minnesota. Her team was playing in the State Junior finals against a team that had Brigette Lacquette of Canada’s Olympic silver medalist squad. Jenelle played for Moose Cree in the LNHL and came away with a much deserved silver medal.
