Claire’s Top 5

1. ‘Framed in Death’ by J. D. Robb

2. ‘The Secret of Secrets’ by Dan Brown

3. ‘Rage’ by Linda Castillo

4. ‘Return to Sender’ by Craig Johnson

5. ‘The First Gentleman’ by James Patterson & Bill Clinton

‘Framed in Death’ – Death imitates art in this new crime thriller starring homicide cop Eve Dallas (one of my favourite characters). New York is filled with galleries and museums and deep-pocketed collectors who can make an artist’s career with a wave of the hand. But one man toils in obscurity, his brilliance unrecognized while lesser talents bask in the glory he believes should be his. Come tomorrow, he vows, the city will be buzzing about his work. And so it begins for Lieutenant Eve Dallas speeding towards the home of two gallery owners whose doorway has been turned into a horrifying tableau overnight. A good read

‘The Secret of Secrets’ – Robert Langdon, esteemed professor of symbology, has travelled to Prague to attend a groundbreaking lecture by Katherine Solomon a prominent noetic scientist with whom he has begun a romantic relationship. Katherine is on the verge of publishing a breakthrough book that contains explosive scientific discoveries about the nature of human consciousness… revelations that threaten to disrupt centuries of established belief. When a brutal murder catapults the trip into chaos, Katherine suddenly goes missing – and her manuscript is destroyed…

‘Rage’ – Chief of Police Kate Burkholder investigates a brutal double murder that takes her into the dark underbelly of society and exposes the dangers of Amish lives gone wrong. Summer has arrived with a vengeance in Painters Mill, and a macabre discovery by three Amish children brings the quiet to a grinding halt. To solve the case, Kate must delve into the most sordid corners of her community, but when she gets too close, the killers target Kate herself.

‘Return to Sender’ – Walt Longmire is back and encounters one of his most baffling cases in Wyoming’s brutal and unforgiving red desert. When Blair McGowan, the mailperson with the longest postal route in the country, covering more than three hundred miles a day, goes missing the question becomes, where do you look for her? Sheriff Longmire mounts an investigation into her disappearance, posing as a letter carrier, he follows her trail and finds himself enveloped in the intrigue of an otherworldly cult.

Although Craig Johnson normally writes westerns this is a good mystery.

‘The First Gentleman’ – The President of the United States is up for re-election. Her husband is on trial for murder. Is the First Gentleman a killer? A pair of brilliant investigative journalists sets out to answer that burning question about the NFL-star-turned-political-spouse. This novel has all the twists and turns and authenticity one can expect and causes the reader to read far into the night. This is the 3rd novel written by these two and I have thoroughly enjoyed all three! You will find all three here at your library.

Knitting and crocheting class is going strong Tuesday afternoons as is Mahjong Wednesday morning. Everyone is welcome to attend.

It is that time again to wish all our patrons and supporters of our library a very Merry Christmas and a very strong thank you for helping the library become the success story it is. Thanks also to the Mindemoya library board who keeps us all on our toes and a special thank you to my staff. We may not always agree but we always want the best for our library.
