MANITOULIN—St. Joseph’s Anishinabek School (SJAS) in Sheshegwaning easily surpassed its fundraising goals to support the annual Terry Fox Run, last week.
A school official told The Expositor that SJAC had set a goal of $500 to raise toward the Terry Fox Foundation and thanks to an amazing community they surpassed their goal, raising $2,625 through cash and online donations, with all the students in the school taking part in the run held last Thursday.
Other schools on Manitoulin Island are taking part in separate Terry Fox runs, reports the Rainbow District School Board (RDSB). Charles C. McLean Public School in Gore Bay held a school-wide Terry Fox Run on September 25 in the community. As of deadline, the amount raised by the students was not tallied.
Assiginack Public School students in Grade 6/7 were proud to organize and host this year’s Terry Fox Run Thursday, October 2. This year’s goal is to raise $1,500 in support of cancer research. If students reach their goal, staff will take part in a hot dog eating contest. Families are encouraged to support through monetary donations and encouragement as students run for a great cause. Assiginack thanks the community for helping to keep Terry’s vision alive.
Little Current Public School hosted a Terry Fox event on Thursday, September 25 at 2 pm. To kickstart the event, students learned about Terry Fox’s legacy and the Marathon of Hope, followed by a walk in the schoolyard and the surrounding community.
