GORE BAY—As the Angel Bus does for its users, the beautiful quilt ‘Sunshine and Hope’ will no doubt boost the day for the winner, which was won by a Kagawong resident earlier this month. And thanks to the generosity of local and seasonal residents in purchasing tickets on the Angel Bus fundraiser quilt raffle, it will benefit the Angel Bus in keeping it maintained and ready to go.
The fundraising quilt draw was held by members of the Angel Bus operating committee at Split Rail Brewing in Gore Bay on October 11, as part of the business’s Octoberfest celebrations.
Shirley De Roche, general manager of Split Rail, along with representatives of the Split Rail operating committee, were on hand for the official draw of the winning ticket for the quilt. “Hello, I am Shirley, and I would like to thank everyone for being here today. We are going to hold a draw for the Angel Bus Fundraising quilt raffle.
Ted Kilpatrick, a member of the Angel Bus operating committee explained, “this beautiful quilt was made by the Happy Quilters Group and quilted by Melissa McIntosh of Lakeside Longarmer. Shirley Farquhar and Linda Ferguson sold a lot of the tickets over the summer.”
“We would like to thank Split Rail very much for selling tickets on the draw over the past couple of months and for hosting this official draw,” said Mr. Kilpatrick.
Sandy Cook, chair of the Angel Bus operating committee told The Expositor, “We had been selling tickets on the quilt draw this summer mainly Linda (Ferguson) and Shirley (Farquhar) on Wednesday at the Kagawong summer market. Once the market shut down for the season, Split Rail, as well as Linda and Shirley, have been selling tickets and have done a fabulous job.”
A total of 732 tickets were sold, generating $2,590 in ticket sales. Sue Renshaw, the winner of the quilt, has a summer home in Kagawong and lives in Fort Erie, Ontario the rest of the year.
Proceeds from the sale of tickets on the quilt will go toward fuel and repairs on the Angel Bus. The Angel Bus is a vital volunteer service that provides accessible transportation for adults throughout Western Manitoulin, helping community members get to essential appointments and services.
