MINDEMOYA—The annual Tour de Meldrum Bay, spearheaded by Dr. Dale Scott, continues to provide tremendous financial support toward the Mindemoya hospital.
“We really appreciate Dale Scott’s group continued support of the hospital,” stated Derek Graham, chief executive officer of the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC), after Dale Scott and some participants in this year’s annual Tour de Meldrum Bay presented a cheque in the amount of $7,300 to the MHC and the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary, last week. “It speaks volumes. They are great folks for continuing to provide this type of support to the hospital.”
Dr. Scott noted that this year’s Tour included 25 bicyclists who travelled from Mindemoya to Meldrum Bay, and back the next day. The event was held in June. “The amount we raised, $7,300, is a record for this event,” he told the Recorder.
The funds will go toward new telemetry equipment in the hospital.
“The Tour de Meldrum Bay funds are being are being streamed through the (Mindemoya) Hospital Auxiliary and will help fund new telemetry equipment for cardio-monitoring,” said Mr. Graham. “This machine is used for hospital staff to be able to more closely monitor patients.”
“We have this type of telemetry equipment now, but the computer parts for it are now obsolete,” said Mr. Graham. “Right now we are doing an investigation with other hospitals on group purchases for telemetry equipment and looking at multiple vendors to get the best equipment and price for the equipment. This investigation will be carried out this year. So this funding support is very timely.”
Mr. Graham also explained, “unless specifically requested by donators, any donations-gifts the MHC receives for the next while will go towards telemetry equipment, for both hospital sites on the Island.”
