Got my first Christmas card through the mail this week, so I’m writing a few cards and notes tonight (Tuesday). How did we already get so far into December?
Today the sun is shining, after the heavy snowfall overnight and today (Thursday).
This next week is Michael’s Bay Christmas concert.
Also, Robbie Shawana is having a Christmas show at the Tehkummah Hall.
Saturday night—Just laid down, two cats out, refused to come in. So we’ll see how long before they beg. The door has been latching easily lately, so I like to make sure (even though they wear fur) they’re warm.
No TV again. I guess the dish is snowed up or is that down?
Not too long home from Mindemoya, another drive down Candy Cane Lane. I see something different every time! Beautiful. Lots of colourful spots in Tehkummah too. And B.J. Bailey’s in South Baymouth is beautiful.
Cal and I played cards with Gib and Florence. This time the girls “done” good (even a skunk). Their place and their neighbour’s have that Christmas look.
The threatening weather on Wednesday scared some of the cribbage players away. I partnered with Keith and we didn’t do so well, though we were pretty close to the third place winners. This Wednesday, December 14, is the last one until the new year 2017. So thank you all cribbage players who come for the fun!
High hands, Lorrie Lee, Jim and Lois; first, Graham and Sheila, 948; second, Bert and Joy, 931; third, (tied) 887, Marg and Simon, Lorrie and Margaret; low, Jean and Mary; door, Jim and Jean.
I heard a rumble that Mr. J. Henderson and Mr. A. Berti celebrated birthdays on the same day this past week, 88 and 90. Could that be? Happy birthday to you! Gib’s birthday is the 15th too. Lots of December birthdays. Corrine Gill on the 27th, me too, the Big “80” on the last day of the month.
Good luck to Lori this week as she goes for her M.R.I on Thursday morning.
Sympathy to Toots McDermid and family in the recent loss of her sister Sally.
This was the night of the Triangle Club Christmas dinner at the hall. Turkey, of course. It was really good. Christmas pudding, dessert and cookies. The folks who entertain us with their music throughout the year joined us for this, and we thank everyone who gives of their time so willingly. The tables were beautifully decorated and of course, the hall already had that Christmas look. Door prize draws were mostly won by the folks at the table behind us. Congrats! Simon won the 50/50 (his name comes up a lot). I’m not sure how many were there, probably close to 70. Denise and her crew catered the dinner. Thanks a lot!
Laurene was in earlier today for a short visit.
I was supposed to go with Susan, Mum and Pauline to Espanola on Friday. Good job I didn’t. Susan said I would have had to ride on the roof home! Anyway, staying home I got some more shelves cleaned and re-organized (a bit at a time).
It’s so interesting to read my old columns. It surprises me too, the time frame mostly.
It was 23 years on the 10th since my brother Peter passed away. In some ways it seems almost like yesterday. Gilda too, 16 years the end of this month. I guess it’s the season that has me melancholy. Those memories, good friends, neighbours and family.
Got phone calls from both the boys this week. Kim called, Dave actually, Cal and I had gone down Friday evening, he’s getting around really well, as long as he doesn’t overdo? “Super Dave.” Sherry made us tea and Christmas (probably gone by now) cookies, were out to snack on.
Derek called Saturday, he’s developed a touch of sugar diabetes, I guess due to his medications, and he says he has three doctors’ appointments before Christmas in Prince George. So that will determine whether he’s able to resume working again!
Mollie called this morning. It’s going to be -36 Monday, she says, in “Winterpeg.”
Hey Mike Erskine, thank you for the wonderful Expositor headlines (our ladies of Tehkummah) I think the photograph was one that Evelyn Russell had taken. Beautiful wasn’t it!
Well, I fought my way to and from the Christmas Caroling at the Little Schoolhouse Museum today. What an awful storm, worse in South Baymouth right off the lake, put down half a foot of snow in the hour or so we were in there!
Lori and her guitar led the singing. Not a huge crowd but they sure were prepared with the snack trays and the desserts, just beautiful. They had five lovely draws. The bath basket was won by Diana; the kitchen basket by Terry Hill; knitted baby blankets etc. by Nancy Leeson; Simple Pleasures jelly by Bids; wreath won by Dick Bowerman.
I stopped at Mums for a minute, but I was sure glad to get back home again. When I went for blood work Wednesday morning Don Arnold was out for his exercise with Calvin McCulligh, and recognized my voice. So I popped over to his room to say hello. He went to Wiky Nursing home the following day. He’s had a long wait. I’m sure they’ll keep you busy in there Don! I forgot to mention, I think, that Nancy and George were (here) on the Island in hunting season.
I woke up singing. We all need a hug in the morning and one at the end of the day. Maybe had something to do with Nancy’s winnings at the museum. Hey, here we are this close to Christmas, so pretend this is my Christmas card, filled with wishes for a wonderful Christmas, and a healthy, happy New Year for you all. The world outside my window just keeps getting more marshmallowy and it’s still snowing. Looks gorgeous, through, just like a Christmas card! OK?
