An Island escape to the Queen’s Inn

GORE BAY—Tucked away on the tranquil shores of Manitoulin Island, The Queen’s Inn in Gore Bay offers a luxurious, history-rich retreat that feels worlds away.

Established in 1880, this charming landmark has been lovingly restored by owners Sandra and Mark Garofolo, seamlessly blending timeless heritage with modern, high-end comforts.

Stepping inside feels like entering a dream. The Garofolos, seasoned global travelers, have infused the inn with sophisticated touches inspired by their journeys. Recent renovations have elevated the guest experience, with elegantly upgraded bathrooms featuring organic products from Tofino, British Columbia and a serene new spa complete with a sauna and invigorating cold-plunge circuit.

The Inn is, “our passions, our purpose, and our journey coming full circle,” stated Ms. Garofolo. It’s an open invitation to experience a slice of Manitoulin magic, a place where luxury and history meet to create an unforgettable escape.

Food lovers will be delighted by the Inn’s culinary offerings. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the veranda transforms into an intimate tapas restaurant, helmed by the Garofolos’ daughter, Chloe, a gifted, self-taught chef. Guests can savour artfully prepared small plates, from fine cheeses and cured meats to wines sourced from around the globe, all while basking in the Island’s gentle breezes.

The Garofolos’ purchased the Queen’s Inn in 2024, opened it up to the public in August, and operated until Thanksgiving.

“We fell in love with the Inn the moment we walked through the front door,” said Ms. Garofolo.

The Queen’s Inn is more than a place to stay, “it’s a labour of love,” said Ms. Garofolo, brought to life by a family deeply committed to preserving its history while creating new memories.

Collaborations with local artisans, including painter Monic Sirkka of Artistry 67 and renowned muralist Monique Legault of Sudbury, add vibrant character to the property. The skilled craftsmanship of contractor Scott Lebrun and the artistry of acclaimed island painter Bobby Hannigan further enhance the inn’s distinctive charm. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated to create an atmosphere as unique as it is enchanting.
