The June 4 meeting of the Library Board included three new members: Dorothy Atchison, Ellinor Leonard and Barbara Baker. They join former members Rosemary Burnett; Marian Barnett, chair; Maureen Armstrong, vice chair; and Christina Jones, town council rep. Input from Sheryl Wilkin, treasurer, and Judy Kift, head librarian, made up a full agenda. The board’s budget committee will meet over the summer.
‘Get with the New Technology’ is the computer-based program for seniors running now at the library. Funded by New Horizons for Seniors, this series is facilitated by Wes Cline who reports that the classes are full of eager older learners on Wednesday afternoons.
This is a busier-than-usual time of year at the library. The spring art exhibit closes on June 14—there is still time to view a large, varied display of Fay Reid’s paintings, and the colourful flower and tree photography of Sarah Warburton.
Watch for the upcoming Summer Art Show. Featured artists are Madonna Aeschlimann, Kathy Dolan and Gail Meehan. “There will be beautiful painting and pastel work and unique photo compositions. We also hope to display an interesting sampling of local Native art,” says Linda Jack of the art committee. The summer show will run from June 24 to Labour Day.
And Art for Seniors is back! Dorothy Atchison, organizer, will be asking participants to sign up for the first workshop on June 27. Once again, materials (which were purchased last year from a NHFS grant) will be provided.
Summer residents and boaters are encouraged to visit our local library. Besides good books, including many new releases, there are audio and large print materials, current magazines, and wifi, so much for all ages to enjoy at the Little Current Public Library. Summer hours are: 10 am to 8 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; noon to 5 pm on Friday, and 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday.
