New summer program at Kenjgewin Teg offers adults a path to graduation and career exploration

M’CHIGEENG—Kenjgewin Teg is excited to be launching Experience Kenjgewin Teg Aambe!, an engaging new summer program designed specifically for adults (18+) who are ready to earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma while exploring post-secondary and career pathways available on Manitoulin Island.

Experience Kenjgewin Teg Aambe! offers adult learners the opportunity to earn a high school credit through hands-on, experiential learning in welding, carpentry, health care, and teaching and learning. Students will look at the exciting career and education options offered at Kenjgewin Teg.

Beyond career exploration, the program includes cultural and life-skill components such as gardening, cooking, canoeing and learning Anishinaabemowin. Students will also earn valuable employment certifications, including First Aid and CPR, WHMIS and Safe Food Handling.

“What makes this program special is how it brings together learning, culture, and community,” said Sherry Moreau, Dean of Pathways. “Participants will build skills, earn certifications, and gain a deeper connection to their educational path, all while learning in a place that values who they are.”

The program begins with a one-day orientation on June 27, followed by four weeks of in-class and on-campus learning starting July 14. Participants will complete a high school credit while gaining exposure to career options and employment skills in a supportive, culturally grounded environment.
