As the days grow shorter, many of us find ourselves asking, ‘where has the year gone?’ It feels like time has rushed past, leaving little space to pause and appreciate the moments. The bright promise of spring and the warmth of summer have faded, and now we find ourselves in the darkest season of the year. For some, that darkness feels heavy—almost as if joy has been locked away.
But today, we stand on the threshold of Christmas. The Advent season calls us to prepare, to reflect, and to rediscover hope. Children open Advent calendars with excitement, finding small surprises behind each door. New adult advent calendars have become available with soaps, charms or Lego. Their joy comes from anticipation. What if we approached each day the same way—expecting light, even in the midst of darkness?
This season invites us to pause intentionally. The opportunities are all around each of us. Whether it’s during a carol, a holiday movie, recital or while crossing something off our to-do list, each moment can be a doorway to light. And as we open those doors, the light grows—until it reveals the greatest gift of all: the birth of Jesus Christ, the source of peace and hope for a weary world.
May this Christmas be a time when we choose to seek that light, share it with others, and let it fill our hearts with joy. The Providence Bay Community of Christ congregation wishes everyone a peaceful and joyous season.
